Services Introductory Summary

I strongly believe that the service component of the academic responsibilities is valuable for students’ success, strengthen our institution and contribute to the advancement of our profession and communities. Therefore, I hope that my service activities in this section will exhibit my unwavering commitment to the Arkansas Tech University vision and mission and my pledge to the success of my students. The service section and its supported documents display evidence of my outstanding active role as a member of Arkansas Tech University who contributes to the C&I department, College of Education, Arkansas Tech University, my profession, and the community at large. I am honored to report that my service efforts since I joint Arkansas Tech University was recognized and rated by the DPTC and department head as excellent (5/5).

My professional conduct, collegiality, and citizenship at Tech are excellent and my commitment to civic engagement has resulted on several major appointments in the C&I department, the university, College of Education, Russellville community as well as serving on regional, national, and international organizations. For example, I have been appointed to serve on the university Promotion and Tenure Committee, the Professional Development Committee, the university Adjunct Support Committee, the university Curriculum Committee, the university Interdisciplinary Research Series, the university Center for Undergraduate Research, the university Diversity and Inclusion Organizational Committee, the College of Education Nominating Committee, the Editorial Advisory Board for the Journal of Global Education and Research (JGER), and serving as the Community Outreach for the Federal Bureau of Investigation and law enforcement (FBI).

I am especially honored for my role as active member of committees and organizations that support students at ATU. For example, serving as Academic Coach and the Bridge to Excellence Program presents me an opportunity to work with freshman and help them adapt to the university academic life. I enjoy being one of the faculty on campus who can answer their questions and guide them through their first semester. I was also fortunate to serve on many registered Tech students-led organizations and activities, such as serving on the “United Black Consciousness”, the “Muslim Students Association, and the “Saudi Club”, to name just a few. Additionally, I served on the university Diversified Faiths Summit, Dress Tech for Success, the College of Education AdHoc scholarship committees, and the gala for the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC). Taking a leadership role in these organizations and events allows me to model my civic engagement for my students to help them develop their own skills that may use during their college life or later in workplace. I also enjoy presenting students to the resources available at Arkansas Tech University to promote the development of practical skills for college success. Another rewarding service to Tech students is being an advocate/advisor for title IX compliance program. This is a program that consists of volunteers to help students who are going through sexual misconduct process. The program was created as responding to the first report generated by the White House Task Force titled “Not Alone”. In this report, it was recommended that all schools should identify trained advocates who will provide emergency and ongoing support to those in need. Additionally, my commitment to helping students resulted in 2015 to be invited and accepted to volunteer as an ambassador for Arkansas Tech University by the International and Multicultural Student Services (IMSSO) office.

As a member of Curriculum & Instruction department, I am always working with other faculty members to review and develop new academic programs, actively participate in all faculty meetings, advise students, and review students’ interns Exit Portfolio. Furthermore, I am serving as the director for the Masters of Instructional Technology program since the fall of 2013. In this capacity, I strive to help recruit and advise students toward achieving their goal to complete their master’s degree in Instructional Technology. I have been also serving on several departments search committees at Arkansas Tech University; chair for College of Education Technology Committee, completed workshops for iPad and Teacher Excellence and Support System training (TESS). In the area of program development, I participated in the development of Elementary education course for Special Education and the new elementary program offered by College of Education. I also worked with other faculty members to develop new certificate to meet the demands for specialists in online teachers in Arkansas school districts. This certificate was approved in 2017 by the Arkansas Higher Education Commission and the certificate courses are currently offered at Arkansas Tech University.

In 2014 and 2015, I chaired presentation sessions in two international conferences at the 6th International Conference on Education and Information Management (ICEIM), Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and at the International Conference of Society for Information Technology and Teacher Education (SITE). My service includes my membership in professional organizations such as the Association of Teacher Educators Technology Committee (ATE), the Arkansas Association of Teacher Educators (ArATE), and the Southeastern Regional Association of Teacher Educators (MSRATE), to name just a few.

Finally, my civic engagement in the Russellville community is diverse and aligns well with the institution’s vision and mission.
