About me

For the last 13 years I taught in higher education at Arkansas Tech University (ATU),

Tulsa Community College (TCC) and abroad at Modern Sciences and Arts University

(MSA) and Misr International University (MIU) in Cairo, Egypt. I worked in designing,

producing and researching digital media content used for face-to-face, on-air and

on-line learning environments, both in higher education and at the corporate level.

My teaching experience includes teaching K-12 for more than ten years in the United

States and abroad. I also earned a Doctor of Philosophy in Educational Technology

from Oklahoma State University.

In higher education, I taught courses that focus on learning and teaching with digital media content at the graduate and undergraduate levels. For example, at the graduate level I taught instructional design and product development, instructional multimedia, production of digital instructional materials and the use of technology for teaching and learning. At the undergraduate level, I taught web design, integrating instructional technology, 3D animation, and audio and video production. In 2005, I was assigned to lead the broadcast program of the Mass Communication Department at MSA. As the broadcast program leader, I advised and supervised students during their graduation projects and ensured that the MSA broadcast program met all accreditation standards required by Egypt and the United Kingdom. I continue to advise and mentor undergraduate and graduate students.

My work experience at the corporate level includes seven years in the Creative Services Department at TV Guide Channel, producing and editing digital media content for viewers throughout the United States and Canada. My experience at TV Guide Channel includes the use of a wide range of digital media production software and hardware, for example, using non-linear and composition software, such as Adobe Premier, Adobe After Effect, Photoshop, Avid Express, Smoke and Combustion. My experience with web design and animation includes software, such as Dreamweaver and 3D Studio Max.

My research focus on digital media is well-founded on my terminal degree and my teaching and work experience. My research includes the following topics: multimedia learning and cognition, digital video-based instruction, designing online learning environment based on cognitive science, digital media and students’ self-efficacy, and personal and contextual factors in using technology. The findings of these studies were presented at national and international conferences, published in scholarly journals and chapters of a book which are now under review.

Finally, in the area of outside funding and grant writing, I coauthored a grant entitled “The Economic Empowerment through Entrepreneurship (BMENA-U.S. and Yemen program grant), a federal program supported and supervised by the American Council on Education (ACE), the United States Agency for International Development’s (USAID) Bureau for Economic Growth, and the Agriculture & Trade and Office of Education (EGAT/ED). I also serve as the technology consultant and a member of the collaboration delegation between the United States and Arab Republic of Yemen.
